Motivation is not enough: how career planning and effort regulation predict academic achievement

Abstract Italy is among the EU countries with lowest rates of college graduates. Preventing dropout rates, promoting better educational achievement and improving adult population well-being can all be accomplished by discovering factors that promote higher academic success. Thus, current study’s goal to investigate personal may have an impact on (in terms grade point average [GPA] number exams passed). We assume identified motivation will indirectly affect via students’ perceived competence in career planning through their capacity regulate effort learning. The present study was conducted at Department Agri-Alimentar Science Technology a huge university northern Italy. A sample 348 students (40.5% male; M age= 21.13 years; SD age = 2.14) voluntarily filled online questionnaire. Analysis collected data were performed using structural equation modelling Mplus software. obtained results provided support hypothesized association between GPA, serial mediation confidence significant learning regulation (β 0.10, SE 0.03, p .006 ), passed 0.02, .009 ). Our extended body research achievement, investigating presence some elements mediate this relationship. findings several practical implications: particular, they used design specific actions success – for example, provision training regarding management, without neglecting importance looking toward own professional future.
